Returning to school after almost twenty years has been a good accomplishment for me. After taking this big step, I fell more motivated about my future and am looking forward to complete my studies. The year 2006, will be very significant because I finally followed up with my goal of enrolling in the University. The semester is over, and I still can not believe that I did OK, regardless of all my daily demands. The Rhe/Comp 306 class, was a good choice, I learned a lot of new concepts and got a fair amount of practice. I like the fact that it was a small class, because we all got more individualized attention. During my vacations I will be taking a class titled: How to speak in front of the public. The material of one of my previous essays will come very handy for this future class. During this brake I hoping to review the concepts that I learned during the semester and continue working in improving my writing. I do appreciate the school benefit that the university offers to all its employees and I planning to get the most of it.

Rhet/Comp 306Q

This class has given me new insights about how to write a document.
I realize that writing is not a simple thing to do, but it requires practice and knowing how to use the right techniques. This class had been very helpful for me, and I am glad I had the opportunity to take it this year. I enjoyed the class even though I must confess that I encountered few personal difficulties.

After some many years of being away from school, this school experience has become kind of challenging because of a considerable adjustment I had to make. Anyway, I believed on a popular saying is that says: " nothing comes easy" almost everyting worth it to get requires of some type of effort or sacrifice to achive it.
In spite of eveything, I am still very interested in keep on learning and specially in learning how to write better.
For some people like me it takes them some more time to master those skills.
I am hopping to take subsequently classes and hopefully with the time and experience I will become more skilled in writing.

Interesting Article

I was browsing the internet in search of an appealing article that would compel me to write about, and I found the right article. Disabling your Distractibility is the name of the article by Brad Issac. I believe his article is very interesting because Brad appears to be knowledgeable on the subject. His site is tiled: goal
He writes on the subject in a very practical way giving suggestions how to counteract the distractibility problem. He says that people goal oriented experience this situation, because usually they have too much in their minds. He says that this distractibility can interfere in the ability to concentrate on what is going on or our surroundings. Another words this could become a handicap.
His suggestion is that when thoughts about things to do or other nature come to our mind, to write them in a card. And that once we write them down we would release that anxiety and our minds will stop drifting away. Also he suggests storing the card in a visible place in order to follow up with this matter later on.
One of my interests is to read about informative articles. I like to examine the different views and try to follow up with their suggestions. I would recommend to others to read this article, I may have missed some other valuable information that he provided in this article.

Research Preparation

The research paper required not just a careful study of good resources but a sufficient preparation to write an essay and to prepare a debate on the topic of our selection.
After looking over several resources, I came across to a book that I thought was one of best resources. The book was titled “The Right Questions: Truth, Meaning & Public Debate”. I became very interested in this book because it addressed our topic and also the technique off how to debate. I really thought that was one of the best resources to get for our bibliography. However, my excitement vanished when I found out that this book and others were restricted for a large class teaching the same topic. For a while my selection became limited because the books that were restricted were part the most recent literature on the subject. Even though that we have found out valuable articles in magazines, and websites, the limitation was mostly in books because the ones that were available were older versions. The desirable bibliography was supposed to cover all types of resources, especially the most recent literature available on the same issue.
Once we have spoken to our instructor of our particular circumstance, she approved some books that were considered also good resources but were older versions.

Research Experience

After we got familiarized to the library resources, we were given a list of important topics to select for our future research paper. Each of the students wrote the top three preferred topics in a category of importance. After our instructor took time to review our selections, she formed groups matching our preference. The selection ranged from current and popular topics that have made news in our county and around the world. The choice was not easy because I became interested in more than one topic. I try to become informed and keep up with the current events because I understand the importance of the news.
However I must confess, that even with this good intention, there are times when I get behind and become misinformed. For me this research paper became an important tool to become somehow acquainted with these popular topics. The preparation of the research paper and the presentation of the debate allow us an important exposure to these topics that turned to become a great educational opportunity.

Interesting Week

As a preparation for the following assignment, we have a couple of class sessions in the Library. I recalled reading about the visit to the library and could not anticipate what our next assignment would be. I considered the change of class location as something good; however I felt apprehensive about remembering the change. The reason why I had this worry is because when my fulltime job gets hectic I can easily forget about unusual events unless I write them in my calendar. And in order to take care of this concern I wrote to myself a couple reminders in my calendar.
We were told that the next assignment was going to be a research paper. The Meeting in the Library was the perfect place to get a good head start in our research. When I got there, I could not wait to begin my search and I got into the computer and I tried to do the search on my own. Since, this was my first search ever in the Library and I was not familiar with the program, I was not very successful. Little did I know that the purpose of the class in the Library was to get us an introduction to the Library system?
I got into the classroom and I started inquiring the instructor about the search, then I realized that she was going to cover all the general guidelines for our research assignment during the class session. Our regular instructor was there to offer additional assistance, however the person that taught us the class was a staff member from the Library. She gave us an introduction about the general resources available in the Library and also in the internet. She also taught us how to evaluate the different type of resources and how to locate them. She answered to most of the question that I had in the beginning of my visit to the library.

Challenging Assignments

The last couple of weeks, we have been busy working on our first essay. This project has been a time consuming assignment, we have been revising it over and over with the intention of getting the correct rhetorical body structure and content. This it has been a good opportunity for us as students in two ways:
First, to exercise our writing skills as we intend to write the essay, and the second is to use our analytical skills in the document.
We had also an assignment about “The letter from the Birmingham, Alabama”, which turn out to be challenging as well. The reading of the document was kind of complex. I read the document several times over and over, and looked up in the Dictionary for the meaning of the words, which I ignored. Then I was able to provide my interpretation of the document.
The letter from the Birmingham Alabama was a document that found it very interesting. Once I have figure out the content, then I came out to the conclusion that Dr. Martin Luther King had used very powerful arguments to clarify his views, avoid future misunderstanding and persuade the audience about his views.
Working on these assignments has allowed me to enrich my vocabulary gradually, by learning the meaning of new words. Another benefit that I need to acknowledge is that in the process of excising my writing skills, I am gaining a little more confidence as in writing.
